This project involved evaluating a 40-year-old chilled water system that served the main building. The aim was to improve reliability and minimise potential future failure.
We were commissioned to examine the options for either repairing the existing chillers or replacing them, looking at cost, efficiency and reliability. Associated works included evaluating controls, pumps and pipework. The site had to remain operational throughout the works.
We proposed replacing the existing chiller plant, along with options to replace the existing electrode boilers with heat pumps. Heat recovery was also incorporated. The motors on the chillers were selected to operate at 3,300 volts to minimise alterations to the existing electrical infrastructure.
- We removed the obsolete plant and unsound pipework to improve reliability.
