A newly refurbished workplace in London

59 Southwark Street Offices

London Councils wished to enhance the dated layout and appearance of its current offices and to improve the experience for visitors entering the building. First impressions were considered paramount.

Pick Everard was challenged with creating a refreshed and welcoming external entrance area, reception and staff wellbeing space. The identity created was important to the client and has been demonstrated through colour within furniture, lighting and feature finishes within our designs. The external entrance was designed to be transformed from a dark alley to a well-lit walkway with a bespoke ceiling design. The staff breakout area will allow for both social events and quiet moments ‘away from the desk’.

The existing structure and layout of the building posed a challenge. With varied ceiling heights and an unusually narrow reception area, space planning was key to the success of the design. The transformation needed to emphasise the double height ceilings and offer a layout that would lead visitors to the reception desk.

Our team introduced a cosy informal meeting space that utilised the low ceilings, while bold feature lighting was introduced to the double height ceiling areas. This allowed the narrow space to appear larger and brighter, creating a statement.

Pick Everard’s multi-disciplinary offer saw our interior designers work closely with our building surveyors to determine potential options for the building’s layout. We were able to develop a design which highlighted the client’s request for a high-end finish, within a limited budget.

Working with trusted suppliers, we were able to present alternative finishes and furniture in line with the client’s budget, while maintaining a contemporary design that maximised the use of the space.
