Being Pick Everard

Meet Our Water Engineering Team

2 Sep 2025

At Pick Everard, our water engineering team delivers integrated solutions that help clients manage water sustainably and responsibly. From strategic planning to detailed design, we support water companies, local authorities, and developers with services spanning hydraulic modelling, flood risk management, wastewater engineering, sustainable drainage, and infrastructure delivery.

Our offer combines technical rigour with innovation, ensuring resilient water environments that protect communities and enhance natural ecosystems. By drawing on expertise from across our multidisciplinary consultancy, we create solutions that are practical, cost-effective, and future-focused.

Dan Santy, Senior Hydraulic Modelling Technician, highlights the team’s collaborative approach to problem-solving:

“I came into the role after studying data science, so I didn’t have knowledge of urban drainage and hydraulics. I’ve studied these topics independently where I can, and most importantly I’ve picked up knowledge from doing the job and listening to colleagues.”

Innovation also plays a key part in the team’s work. Dan recently automated a data extraction process for Severn Trent Water using Python scripting in QGIS - saving time and improving accuracy.

Patryk Ciesla, Associate Director, balances technical delivery with leadership and strategy:

“Each day is different, exciting and very dynamic. It is a mix of technical project work, leadership and undertaking client facing roles. When it comes to project work then this includes internal and external meetings, site visits, reviewing technical calculations, design drawings and reports. I am passionate about working with people, so my role also involves guiding and mentoring the younger generation of civil engineers daily and supporting their professional development.”

His recent projects include designing infrastructure to reduce discharges from sewerage systems and improve river water quality in Greater Manchester - work that directly supports a healthier environment.

Rachel King, Associate - Civil Engineering, has seen her role evolve significantly since joining the business:

“I started at Pick Everard in 2003 as a Graduate Engineer in our Water Team. Last year I moved back to the water team after 15 years in structures, and it’s safe to say the past 12 months have been both challenging and rewarding.”

Rachel has recently returned to the water team, bringing project management and technical expertise to help meet AMP 8 deliverables. She says this transition has reinforced the importance of supporting early-career engineers with guidance and shared knowledge.

Together, our water engineers provide a complete service - from concept to delivery - with a clear focus on innovation, collaboration, and sustainability. Whether addressing complex wastewater challenges, designing resilient flood defences, or improving water quality, our team is committed to shaping a better water environment for all.
