Pick Everard heads to London Build Expo to share insights into Building Safety Act challenges

28 Oct 2025

It’s been a bumpy ride for construction schedules since the introduction of the Building Safety Act (BSA) two years ago. Reduced activity across the sector has been blamed on stalled developments due to changes in requirements, and hold-ups related to the Building Safety Regulator.

While the National Association Construction Frameworks says there has been an uplift in tender workloads in the second quarter of this year, fears have been raised that any easing of pressure at the Gateway 2 point will be undermined by replicated delays at Gateway 3.

In a live panel discussion at London Build Expo, Pick Everard’s dedicated Building Safety Act team will unpick the project delivery process. With guest speakers from across the industry, they will delve into how the BSA is being interpreted in 2025 and who is best placed to navigate the rules on behalf of stakeholders.

Mostafa Chowdhury, National Director of Health and Safety at Pick Everard commented: “It’s never too early to demonstrate competence and compliance with the BSA regulations. From the introduction of the Act, there has been a risk that too many organisations feel the introduction of the Principal Designer is a box-ticking exercise, intensified by guidance stating that third parties should not be allocated this role.

Employing a competent Principal Designer, with sufficient time to spend on a project and who advises early on the legal risks of non-compliance and also the real and significant project risks, such as programme delays, idle design teams, procurement issues, and supply chain disruption, can help ensure project timelines reflect a true financial picture.”

Vaso Vaina, Associate Principal Designer at Pick Everard said: “Now is the time for the industry to come together and work collaboratively to ensure the long-term value of the Act is not lost. This new standard for building safety will serve generations to come - we must grasp the opportunity to create real change.”

London Build Expo takes place at Olympia London on November 19 and 20, bringing together contractors, developers, architects and housebuilders with procurement teams, specifiers, civil engineers and other construction professionals.

Vaso Vaina, principal designer at Pick Everard will host the panel discussion on the Building Safety & Security stage at 15:00 on 19 November.
