A University building to inspire
Teaching and Learning Centre
The interior design team were asked to produce a conceptual design for a collaboration space and teaching facilities. The design needed to reflect the clients branding and establish a new building at the heart of the campus which would encourage students to engage with their surroundings, by providing new facilities that promote different ways of working and learning.
Our approach
The team responded by producing a design which creates areas within the building that are welcoming and flexible, whilst reflecting the universities brand identity through the use of vibrant wall graphics.
Our challenge was to produce interior design strategies which work holistically with the aesthetic of the architectural envelope, college branding/marketing strategies and wellbeing principles.
The architectural scheme in general was neutral, contemporary, and timeless. We proposed to continue this approach on the inside of the building through internal finishes combined with feature areas. Our challenge was to create spaces which not only looked good but felt light, airy, and inviting.
Acoustics were also of particular importance, as the atrium style building was at risk of being echoey. The Interiors team took these requirements on board and produced a design that incorporated acoustics elements in a way that helps to denote different areas within the space, making the acoustics both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
Pick Everard’s Interior Design team envisaged the breakout and collaboration space to be central to the buildings unique and inspiring aesthetics. The eye-catching double height area allows natural light to enter the space from above, as well as the large full height windows at ground level which allow excellent visibility throughout the space, encouraging students to explore and engage with a building that promises to provide facilities to relax, study or socialise within.
