6 Apr 2023

What is your role at Pick Everard?

I am Senior Learning and Development Advisor at Pick Everard. My role covers all aspects of supporting our colleagues’ learning and development, such as supporting our apprentices, creating and delivering training programmes, running our internal mentoring programme, RISE and ensuring all of our people have access to the right career development opportunities.

What inspired you to pursue a career in Learning and Development?

I discovered the world of Learning and Development through my previous employer and started my career journey focusing mainly on facilitation of training programmes. After 6 months, I knew that I wanted to develop further and learn more about all of the other areas of Learning and Development. After 2 years, I saw a vacancy at Pick Everard and applied for the role. I have a strong passion for supporting people and helping them to grow the careers that they want. Learning and Development enables me to execute this is multiple ways.

How does Pick Everard support employees’ personal and career development?

Pick Everard has a variety of initiatives that our people can access. We nurture those at the beginning of their careers through offering apprenticeship opportunities, providing access to our early careers training programme, Springboard and offering routes to chartership.

When joining us, you can expect to have access to a mentor, a wide range of e-learning modules, Career Action and Personal Development Plans.

We are also proud to offer continuous growth opportunities to established and senior staff at all levels and allow individuals to tailor their own development plans to be able to reach their goals.

What attracted you to Pick Everard?

It was clear from my first conversation with the Talent Acquisition team, that Pick Everard are very people focused and this was part of my original attraction and still is. Having an employer that goes a long way to ensure that everyone, no matter their level or role, feels included and involved is something that attracted me to Pick Everard.

What is your Pick Everard highlight to date?

Our Learning and Development team winning the Constructing Excellence East Midlands 'People Development' Award. Winning this award demonstrated our dedication to our people. We are involved in many initiatives and ongoing projects that enabled this win, and it made me feel very proud.

You recently won the regional and national Being Pick Everard award for ‘Being Positive’. What does being positive mean to you?

To me, this means being able to overcome the challenging moments, whilst recognising the opportunities that you are experiencing and learning from them.

How does your role relate to the wider People and Culture team?

Working within the People and Culture team means that Learning and Development is further connected to all of our people, right from the beginning at recruitment, all the way through to ensuring that our people are supported and have access to the development opportunities that they want and need.

What are you most looking forward to in 2023?

To continue aiding the development of my colleagues and increasing my own skills and knowledge base.
