Shaopeng Xu, Landscape Architect

Congratulations on becoming a Chartered Landscape Architect! How did you feel after the submission of your application?

Thank you. I felt a great accomplishment and a tremendous relief when my exam result came out. Becoming a Chartered Landscape Architect is a formal recognition of professional skills, competence and knowledge. It perfectly concluded my two-year learning period on the Pathway to Chartership (P2C).

What projects did you do as part of the application?

My P2C journey spanned two years, which has enabled me to submit various projects ranging across Public Sector, Residential, Education and Custodial. One of the challenging and memorable projects that I learnt the most from would be the Broadmarsh Public Realm. It’s a prestigious scheme that sits in the centre of Nottingham City. We have developed the design through Technical Design and Construction Stage.

Do you have any tips or advice for Landscape Architects who are just about to embark on their journey to Chartership?

I highly recommend joining the P2C as soon as one is ready to. The system encourages us to learn in a greatly structured way. It’s important to keep a P2C ‘radar’ in head so we can proactively take things in at any time. I also found myself more active and confident in dealing with project matters during the process.

What do you enjoy about working at Pick Everard?

What I enjoy the most is the trust and support that we are offered. Being surrounded by a group of amazing professionals with diverse backgrounds, we are always encouraged to explore new areas, share knowledge and take responsibilities.

What are your plans for 2022? What do you want to accomplish?

Getting chartered does not put an end to my learning. I will continue my professional development through CPDs throughout my professional life. In the upcoming year, I would like to invest my time in streamlining our drawing production process and exploring our 3D capabilities in a collaborative approach.
