Pick Everard Awards 2021

20 Dec 2021

Elizabeth Hardwick-Smith

Group People and Culture Director

One of the main things I enjoy about working at Pick Everard is the opportunity to oversee our annual Being Pick Everard Awards. The nominations we receive for our staff are brimming with positivity and gratitude and they create a fantastic opportunity for us all to learn about the great support our staff have given to each other throughout the year.

Now in its second year, The Being Pick Everard Awards are an excellent way for our colleagues to recognise each other for their commitment, contribution and work ethic. The awards recognise staff who are real exemplars of our four core values – Being Professional, Being Compassionate, Being Client Oriented and Being Fun to Work With. What I like most about the Being Pick Everard Awards is that the nominations come from our own people and the authentic peer to peer appreciation and respect is a joy to witness.

We encourage staff to spend time thinking about why they would like to nominate someone and we firmly believe that making a nomination is just as rewarding as receiving an award. It taps into all of the positive feelings and emotions we get when we give to others, making it an important exchange between colleagues. We strengthen that positivity even more by publicising our reward nominees on our People Hub, so everyone gets to share in why someone has been nominated.

This year, we’ve had a huge surge in nominations, with over 160 colleagues nominated across our 600 strong business. 2021 has presented us with new experiences and challenges to navigate our way through, as well as opportunities to reconnect and collaborate in person. Throughout the year we’ve had some real stars who have shone out as we’ve progressed through that journey and I am delighted that engagement in the Awards has risen.

The Awards are part of a much broader project of work we’re undertaking, looking at reward and recognition as a whole across Pick Everard. Working closely with a focus group of staff we’ve shared ideas on new potential rewards for 2022 – such as an enhanced long service award and more investment in our wellbeing. As well as this, 2021 saw the Practice implement new family-friendly benefits by way of enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave offerings as well as a new childcare scheme and spot bonuses: designed to enable line managers to recognise ‘in the moment’ achievements of staff in the work they’re doing. We look to involve our people in proposed changes as much as possible and so we’ve surveyed the business on our rewards offering which has provided further interesting feedback for our staff focus group to consider.

We’re proud of our team at Pick Everard. We all work alongside dedicated, talented and hard-working colleagues. In a year in which we’ve carefully selected, onboarded and trained hundreds of staff it’s essential that we take the time to support them in feeling recognised and motivated. The Being Pick Everard Awards help perpetuate our culture, give a sense of belonging and cohesion as well as incentivise the right behaviours. I’m really looking forward to our winners being announced at this month’s broadcast and sharing the news of their achievements. Good luck and a huge well done to all nominees!
