Nicola Breward – Senior Transportation Technician

What is your role?

I am a Senior Transportation Technician in the Highways and Infrastructure Team at Pick Everard. My role includes, but is not limited to, looking into vehicle and pedestrian accessibility of new or existing sites, investigating sustainable travel opportunities, and assessing the growth of traffic from a development on the highway network and the implications of those additional vehicles.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I would say there is no ‘typical day’ as I am always working with different tools and approaches to suit the different projects we work on. Some days I can be knee deep in Excel tables of calculations, some days analysing data and inputting it into reports, some days I can be modelling junctions and some I can be out on site.

What exciting schemes/projects have you worked on?

We have worked on a number of confidential projects, which have been challenging but also exciting. We have had the opportunity to see some memorable sites as part of those. It’s exciting to be involved in projects and see them evolve and be developed, and know you have played a part. There have been schools, residential sites, police stations, leisure centres, multi-use hubs plus many more.

What are your goals for the next 5 years?

To develop my knowledge and understanding with the ever changing developments in the transport and travel world such as the introduction and growth of electric vehicles. I have learnt so much working on different developments and faced challenges that come with the territory, but I plan to build on that.
