Launch of new energy rating system scheme for UK offices

Director, Head of Sustainability & Energy
A new scheme for rating the operational energy efficiency of UK offices, NABERS UK, was launched on 26 November 2020. NABERS UK will play a vital role in bridging the performance gap between the design and in-use energy performance of offices in the UK and create much needed transparency for the market.
NABERS Energy ratings measure and verify the actual energy use of existing offices, providing a rating from 1-6 stars and helping building owners to accurately target, measure and communicate the energy performance of their buildings. This investment grade rating can be used to demonstrate whether offices are on a net zero carbon trajectory and provide investors and occupiers with the confidence that the buildings they own and occupy are aligned with their climate change ambitions.
Alex Mitchell, thermal modelling lead and associate at Pick Everard, said: “Action against climate change is at the heart of everything we do at Pick Everard. We are committed to reducing carbon across all of our projects as we build on successes within government and local authority portfolios. We welcome NABERS UK as a proven route to delivering measurable savings to our clients in the commercial property sector.”
The NABERS UK scheme has been developed via the Design for Performance initiative of which we are proud to be one of the Delivery Partners. The scheme is led by the Better Buildings Partnership, working in close collaboration with the market transformational Australian NABERS programme.
Dr. Jose Hernandez, director of Pick Everard, said: “We are thrilled to see the launch of NABERS UK in a bid to generate more sustainable industry-wide collaboration. Reducing carbon and the overall environmental impact of our projects are of significant importance in everything that we do, so we endeavour to work towards transforming the UK market for the better and developing more energy efficient office spaces.”
