Being Pick Everard

Julian Woolley

Julian Woolley is an Associate Director for Landscape Architecture, here he discusses what projects he's working on at the moment and what inspired him to pursue a career in the industry.

What is your role at Pick Everard?

I am an Associate Director for Landscape Architecture. I joined Pick Everard to lead the Leicester team and support Director Nicola Hamill in expanding the national landscape team. I have accumulated wide-ranging experience across nearly all sectors, working both within the UK and internationally.

What attracted you to Pick Everard?

I was immediately impressed with Pick Everard's people-focused approach, which has been reinforced and strengthened since joining, with real care and attention. I have the opportunity to put my own stamp on the landscape team and make a valued contribution to the business.

What exciting projects are you working on at the moment?

I am the Lead Landscape Witness for the Luton Airport Development Consent Order (DCO) through the six-month Examination in Public for the airport expansion. This has been challenging, as the DCO programme is very intense but has been enormously beneficial in terms of my career development and gaining further experience with Landscape Witness services.

What inspired you to pursue a career in Landscape Architecture?

A happy coincidence, a careers advisor suggested a combination of my artistic skills with a keen interest in geography and I have never looked back. I love the variety of the projects I work on; no two days are the same.

How are you helping students to get started in Landscape Architecture?

I am an active Landscape Ambassador for the Landscape Institute, promoting the profession within local schools, offering work experience placements as well as being a founder member of the Landscape Institutes Apprenticeship trailblazer to provide further routes into the profession.

What excites you about your future at Pick Everard?

There is a lot of exciting opportunities to bring new workstreams into Pick Everard and really broaden and expand the Landscape offer. I am promoting a Landscape led approach to unlock project opportunities at earlier stages.
