Being Pick Everard: Joanna Posnett
6 Aug 2024
Joanna Posnett, our Associate Transport Engineer, was inspired by her degree in geography, which sparked her interest in transport planning, particularly in people, places, and movement. She works collaboratively with other disciplines to create exceptional buildings and spaces, ensuring a strong focus on active travel, accessibility, and road safety while effectively managing the impact of development on the highway network.
What exciting plans do you have for the Transport team at Pick Everard?
I am excited to be developing the Transport Planning and Engineering team to bolster the broad range of services that we offer to our clients. Working in collaboration with other disciplines to create exceptional buildings and spaces, our expertise will ensure a strong focus on active travel, access for all and road safety, whilst managing the impact of development on the highway network.
What attracted you to Pick Everard?
I had high regard for Pick Everard due to their prestigious status, in Leicester, and across the country, with a great portfolio of high-profile projects. I was drawn to the practice ethos for delivering excellence through expertise and collaboration, with a strong focus on sustainability, building client relationships and taking care of their employees. I also relished the opportunity to work within a broad multi-discipline firm.
How do you advocate for Women in Engineering?
I enjoy networking with other women in the industry and hearing from aspirational speakers at Women in Planning and Women in Construction events. We have a good proportion of women across the practice, particularly within the Transport team, and I look forward to supporting them in their professional development and joining the Pick Everard Women in Leadership group.
I attended the Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering Awards last year and was delighted to hear that Emelye Kenyon in our environmental team is nominated for an award this year.
What made you decide to pursue a career in Transport Planning?
I was particularly interested in people, places and movement during my Geography degree, including the social benefits of providing high quality and functional built environments. I started my career in Traffic Management at Nottingham City Council as the tram network was being reintroduced, along with the workplace parking levy and residents parking schemes. Whilst not without controversy and lessons learned, the innovative proposals were delivered and demonstrated that we can change travel habits and achieve modal shift.
