Tell us about your current role
I’m a Senior Interior Designer at Pick Everard, based in our Derby office. Being an interior designer involves a lot of multitasking. A typical week includes working on multiple design schemes, continuous professional development, marketing and research. This can include working on specific interior focused projects such as refurbishments or working with the architects to enhance the interior for the users of new builds. Interior design has had much more of a focus in recent years, particularly in education and the workplace. People realise that the look and feel of a space can really enhance people’s wellbeing and productivity, meaning it is important to get us on board in the early stages of a project.
What attracted you to your profession?
It was definitely the creative freedom that attracted me to the profession. I have always enjoyed drawing and being artistic ever since I was a child! I love design in fashion and interiors, both classic and contemporary and have a particular interest in how design is changing to suit different generations. Our skills in space planning, wayfinding, visualisation, specification and bespoke joinery can really change the way a building is designed. Also, I enjoy the diversity of sectors and potential projects, there are so many exciting opportunities out there that I would love to put my stamp on. A couple of the schemes I am working on currently include a Performing Arts Centre in London and the refurbishment of a large office in Leicester.
What is your top highlight of working at Pick Everard so far?
I’m really excited about Pick Everard’s vision for the interiors department. We’re looking at how we can grow the interior design team as well as how we can share our knowledge by providing advice to others within the business. The practice is really supportive of me as an interior designer and I have always felt welcomed and comfortable within the office. The people here make work enjoyable with their friendly and creative approach.
What are you looking forward to in the future here?
I’m looking forward to being part of a growing team as well as helping to shape the department’s vision for the future. I am particularly looking to focus on promoting our services to my fellow colleagues. We are aiming to encourage our wider teams to offer our services, in addition to attracting new clients who desire more interior focused projects.
Interior design is extremely important in influencing wellbeing and productivity in all sectors and it’s really rewarding how we can impact on buildings in this way. I enjoy sharing this knowledge and meeting prospective clients in person so that they can see my work and why I love doing it.
I keep myself up to date with current trends by reading blogs and sharing articles online. I’m also actively involved in promoting our services and the work we are doing through social media, we hope to increase our growing following.
