High performance indoor sports facilities including gym and sports pitches

University of South Wales Sports Park

The £15m University of South Wales (USW) Sport Park was constructed in response to growing demand for space and to accommodate a significant increase in student numbers which had placed pressure on the previous facilities.

Our investment in this enhanced resource is an example of our belief in the importance of giving students first-hand experience and allowing them to be immersed in their subject – from both a practical and academic level.

Professor Julie Lydon

USW Vice-Chancellor

The £11m Sports Park at the University of South Wales offers a cutting performance development centre close to Cardiff which provides a specialist strength and conditioning gym, offering high performance equipment for aspiring athletes and Wales’ only full size 3G indoor football pitch.

Delivered on a challenging site and under tight budget constraints, we were instrumental in guiding the project through initial difficulties by re-programming works and identifying cost savings to remove a changing room from the design while retaining flexibility for this to be added later.

The Sports Park has helped to enhance the student experience and is expected to facilitate growth in student numbers and community clubs.

The Sport Park helps USW maintain its position as the largest provider of football coaching degrees in Europe, delivered through a partnership with 30 Premier League and English League Football Clubs. It is recognised as a ‘world class facility’ that is enjoyed by the local community and visitors from all over the globe.
