Regent College was built in 1928 and was in urgent need of new buildings. After the withdrawal of Learning and Skills Council funding for a new campus, we were able to quickly develop designs and manage delivery of a smaller refurbishment to improve standards within existing buildings.
Our brief was to design and manage delivery of an extensive refurbishment of the cafeteria, hall and associated teaching rooms; providing flexible working space and a revitalised environment for students. It was imperative the refurbishment and extension works did not adversely affect the character and quality of the existing building.
We focused on effective communication between all parties to overcome challenges regarding the location and landmark status of the building, ensuring smooth navigation of the design stages. We enhanced the sustainability of the building with a biomass boiler, upgrade of thermal insulation, solar control film and finishes from sustainable sources.
- We overcame the challenges of the urban location of the site
- We substantially enhanced the sustainability of existing buildings
- We provided a modern, high quality refurbishment and extension
