RAF Honington commissioned us to create a new junior ranks mess, replacing the existing facility which didn’t comply with current practice and food hygiene regulations.
Our brief was to create a new campus within Honington’s redevelopment plan, providing dining space for 1,250 people, with one area for new recruits and another for junior ranks. This would include food preparation and storage areas, access for deliveries and refuse collection, a link to the existing taxiway and 400 parking bays on the existing hard standing.
We provided a much-appreciated new building on time and on budget, with an emphasis on ergonomics. Materials and products were chosen for their durability, long life expectancy, minimal necessary maintenance and ease of replacement.
We also designed the building to minimise adverse effects on the environment, using recycled or recyclable products wherever possible. We created an internal environment suitable for the function of each room in terms of heating, ventilation and natural lighting.
- We delivered the project on time and on budget.
- We achieved a DREAM Excellent rating.
