This scheme involved extensive redevelopment of a mixed-use city centre site, remodelling and reconfiguring run-down retail units, upgrading offices and improving residential properties. Undertaken by private investors, it has been phased over a number of years.
The client asked us to expand and extensively improve the shopping centre, giving the area the much-needed uplift it needed to stay viable in an increasingly competitive market. All work had to be carried out without interrupting trading to shops or disturbing pedestrian routes.
We opened up the existing covered arcade area, creating new entrance features as inviting focal points and providing a completely fresh frontage to a major public thoroughfare. Externally, we reconfigured and resurfaced the car park, as well as giving the entire frontage of West Street a radical facelift, with new glazing canopies, larger glazed shopfronts and new cladding.
- We created new entrances which provided a more coherent approach for pedestrians along a much-used right of way from nearby housing developments.
- We carried out all of the work on time, within budget and without disrupting trading.
