The Isle of Wight College engaged Pick Everard as design consultants to masterplan the phased development of their campus, beginning with a new sixth form centre.

The brief

This first phase required us to design, develop and deliver a new sixth form centre – a centre of excellence fit for the 21st century. It would create an additional 1,800m² of teaching space on campus, enabling the College to offer a long-awaited A level curriculum.

Our response

We created a purpose-built, secure sixth form centre, providing 300 extra student places and facilities for A level study. It’s a modern, state-of-the-art centre for teaching, learning and socialising, with flexible accommodation for scientific, vocational and academic subjects.

We also designed in sustainable features, including renewable energy use, energy and water efficiency, natural light ventilation, self-regulating ambient temperatures, SuDs principles, rainwater harvesting and a pond / wetland area.

Key facts

  • We created an inspiring learning environment.
  • We helped the client achieve long-held aspirations.
  • We achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating for the project.
  • We built in efficient, sustainable energy and water systems.
