The University of Derby commissioned us to develop a new enterprise centre with a strong business ambience. It needed to accommodate a range of complementary activities to generate sustainable business traffic and revenue.

The brief

We were asked to create an iconic design for the centre, which would include an innovation zone for start-up businesses, rentable offices and meeting rooms, conference space and café and dining facilities.

Our response

Working within a tight budget, we were able to realise the goals and aspirations of the client through careful use of materials, light and space. The result is an inspiring, contemporary space which impresses its visitors.

Our design includes a circular landscape, intersected with strong geometrical lines which derive from the primary access route in and out of the building. It features a three-storey atrium with full height curtain walling, which gives the building transparency and encourages interactivity.
