Pick Everard heads design of engineering faculty development at City of Bristol College

Pick Everard has been appointed to head the design and implementation of a £6m faculty development at City of Bristol College. Pick Everard is providing architectural design services for The North Bristol Engineering Development. This new build scheme has a target rating of BREEAM Excellent and includes refurbishment on the College’s Parkway site, Stoke Gifford.

This project, scheduled for launch in autumn 2013, will deliver state of the art facilities for students to gain high-calibre skills that will provide aeronautical, engineering and motor vehicle industries with world-renowned products. The college views manufacturing as a growth area and aims to equip its engineering students with the right credentials so they can apply to prestigious firms such as Porsche, DAF Trucks, Rolls-Royce, and GKN Aerospace. The development will also allow the College to upgrade accommodation and reduce running costs by bringing together motor vehicle engineering, aeronautics and general engineering into this development.

Under the Government Procurement Service Project Management and Full Design Team Services Framework Agreement, Pick Everard is heading up a team, supported by Gleeds cost consultants and estates management services specialist Provelio. The team will provide project management, design management, quantity surveying, architectural and interior design, landscape architecture, mechanical and electrical design, civil and structural engineering, BREEAM assessment and estates consultancy. Full design services will include detailed proposals for a planning application, and feasibility studies are currently underway to establish a design brief for presentation. If approved, the project can progress to the appointment of a building contractor using the approved procurement process.

Pick Everard Partner Rod Burton said the co-ordinated teamwork particularly impressed the College. “This is a particularly pleasing win for Pick Everard, as it has been achieved against stiff competition from other major consultancies. We’re delighted to be involved with this vital scheme, which will help provide students with the highest quality accommodation and facilities to inspire engineers of the future. We look forward to getting this underway.”

Pick Everard offers comprehensive services under the Government Procurement Service framework, geared to the exacting demands of the construction industry. The practice has renowned expertise in educational design and an award-winning project history including Stephenson College, Madani High School, Oakham School, Derby High School, Leicester Grammar School and Isle of Wight College. Pick Everard is currently working on a number of major school and further education college projects across the UK including Northampton College, Dudley College and Stourbridge Campus.
