Pick Everard appointed by Cambridgeshire Police Authority under Buying Solutions framework to design new 21st century Headquarters

Pick Everard has been appointed to design, procure and project manage the construction of a multi-million pound Southern Division Headquarters for Cambridgeshire Police Authority under the new Buying Solutions Project Management and Full Design Team Services Framework Agreement.

The current Parkside Police Station was built in 1967 in central Cambridge but, as the nature of policing has significantly changed, the building no longer provides the high standards and flexibility of accommodation required to meet the needs of 21st century policing. The new divisional headquarters will be designed to reflect current best practice in consultation, design and construction. It will be welcoming and accessible to the general public while being an efficient working environment that lifts the spirits of staff and be flexible, so as to accommodate changing working practices in years to come.

Design will be in line with the Home Office Building Design Policy and ‘Better Public Buildings’ guidance published by HM Government in 2006.  Renewable energy sources will be fully explored by the design team and incorporated, as far as funds will allow, aiming for a Very Good BREEAM rating as a minimum. The new building will be ready for occupation in 2012.

Pick Everard will employ a multi-disciplinary development team that includes Tangram Architects, Troup Bywaters & Anders, Gillespies, Savills and Trebor Developments.

Rod Burton, Pick Everard partner comments, “We’re delighted to have been appointed by Cambridgeshire Police Authority for its Southern Division headquarters. Pick Everard has worked on a range of police authority schemes throughout the UK, most recently as part of three year framework agreement with five police authorities in the East Midlands region (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire), and in Scotland with The Northern Joint Police Board and Strathclyde Police.”

Pick Everard has also worked extensively in the custodial arena and has recently been appointed with Kier Build to design the new £150million Featherstone prison in the West Midlands and with Kier Western to design and build a new house block at HMP Erlestoke in Wiltshire.

Buying Solutions is an Executive Agency of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) in the Treasury and the national procurement partner for UK public services.  Improvement and Efficiency South East (IESE) partnership is a primary stakeholder in the framework, established to help the southern region’s 74 local authorities in their drive to increase efficiency and improve services.
