Construction Regatta a thundering success 9 July 2007

On Friday 22nd June at Rutland Sailing Club thirty competitors braved grey skies, light winds and rain to take part in the 20th Construction Industry Regatta, sponsored for the 3rd consecutive year by Pick Everard.

Despite the rain it was as popular as ever, with high spirits and friendly competition much in evidence. Lack of wind was a problem for the sailors, making races take much longer than expected. This was compounded by a serious thunderstorm after lunch, which meant every boat had to be called in for safety reasons. The result of these interruptions was that only two of the scheduled three races took place.

First prize for individual performance went to Mike Dencher from Chew Valley Sailing Club. The team prize was won by Roger Bullivant Ltd, while first prize in the Over 45’s was awarded to Tony Wilcock & Caroline Fox from Budworth.

Thanks to everyone who took part and made an soggy day so successful, and to co-sponsors Corus, New Civil Engineer and Roger Bullivant Ltd. Anyone who would like to enter the competition next year should contact Jonathan Adams at Pick Everard on (0116) 223 4566 or e-mail jonathanadams@pickeverard.co.uk.
