Inverness

As The Gateway to the Highlands with a long and interesting history, it is a place that offers an unrivalled quality of life.

Granted city status by Queen Elizabeth in 2000, Inverness has recently been named as the fastest growing city in Western Europe. Despite this, it is free from congestion, has the lowest levels of pollution for a UK city. It is one of the cleanest and most scenic environments in Europe. On top of all of this, there's plenty to do as well. For a start there's Inverness Castle and St Andrew's Cathedral, which dominate the River Ness and what has been described as one of the most beautiful riverside settings in Britain.

Shoppers are well catered for by the Victorian Market and the new award-winning shopping complex, Eastgate 11. Above the city lies Craig Phadrig, once the stronghold of Pictish Kings, which offers interesting forest walks and magnificent views of the Moray Firth, home to a diverse range of wildlife including bottlenose dolphins.
