Pick Everard has significant experience in the design and delivery of high quality prison and custodial, emergency services and police projects across the UK and in Scotland.

We design prisons and custodial buildings, police stations and forces headquarters, designing brand new facilities as well as advising on alterations, extensions, maintenance and repair works. Many building projects involve providing more modern, flexible and energy efficient facilities, which Pick Everard’s expert multidisciplinary teams, including architects and engineers, routinely design for healthcare, sporting and educational sectors.

Designing custodial institutions is complex. Value for money must be carefully balanced against the need for robustness and security. Pick Everard is one of a small number of multi-disciplinary firms with the necessary skill and experience. Our design philosophy takes seriously the need for a building to have a positive impact, whether prisoner, visitor or member of staff.

Pick Everard’s prison and custodial buildings experience provides many examples where being proactive about efficiencies at the design stage has improved facilities and buildings: designing ligature free environments by incorporating junctions and fixing details within structural walls and floors; adding robustness in the design of building fabric detailing eliminating the need for applied protection; using offsite prefabrication to standardise quality levels, reduce construction periods, costs and minimise operational disruption.
