West Suffolk House in Bury St Edmunds won the Best Sustainable Building award in the 2010 East Anglia LABC Building Excellence Awards.

The amalgamation of public service staff from Suffolk County Council and St. Edmundsbury Borough Council under one roof is something of a groundbreaking concept. The £16million Bury St Edmunds Public Service Village - West Suffolk House - is a positive example of the advantages that cross-authority working can achieve. The latest building management techniques were used to design this flexible building, meeting the highest standards for energy efficiency and so achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating.

2010 East Anglia LABC Building Excellence Awards

The Best Partnership award was given in the 2010 East Anglia LABC Building Excellence Awards for collaboration between St. Edmundsbury Borough Council and Pick Everard on several Suffolk County Council projects including the Gainsborough Library in Ipswich, West Suffolk House and many schools in the County’s improvement programme, including St Felix School in Newmarket after arson destroyed its original building.

Pick Everard was also a finalist in Best Technical Design & Construction and Best Large Commercial Building categories.

To ensure that buildings are healthy, safe, sustainable and accessible for all users and tenants whether domestic, commercial or public sector, LABC coordinates the technical application of building regulations and influences new or revised regulations covering new technology, new building methods and environmental performance.
