Derby High School Music & Sixth Form Centre
Brighter City of Derby Award 2010
An impressive new Music School and Sixth Form Centre at Derby High School won First Prize in the 2010 George Larkin Brighter City of Derby Awards.
Judged the best new building to be completed in Derby during 2009 by the Derby Civic Society, which organises and judges the annual awards, the £2million centre was designed by Pick Everard.
Mature, protected trees and a bluebell wood were dominant features of the Derby High School site and so Pick Everard architects cleverly designed these into a master plan for the whole site. The new contemporary, curved Music School building deflects noise providing superb acoustic qualities for recital spaces and a recording studio. With large windows overlooking a bluebell wood, practice rooms are filled with natural light. The Sixth Form Centre has new common room and teaching facilities.
Nottingham Building Foundation’s Craftsmanship Awards 2011
The Sixth Form and Music Centre at Derby High School won an outstanding craftsmanship certificate and was the overall winner of the annual premier award for outstanding craftsmanship.
