William Smith Building - British Geological Survey

Commended - RICS East Midlands Awards 2010

Commended in the Sustainability category at the regional finals of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors’ (RICS) East Midlands Awards 2010, The William Smith Building is the newest addition to the British Geological Survey headquarters in Nottingham and a high quality sustainable new build project, using an existing site comprising six original buildings.

Some 3000 square metres, this the largest timber-framed open-plan office building in the UK and built to a BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method)  ‘Excellent’ rating boasts energy efficient building techniques including cedar and terracotta cladding, sheep's wool insulation and a Termodeck under-floor heating system.
