Scunthorpe Sewage Treatment Works

Commended - (ACE) 2010 Engineering Excellence Awards

Scunthorpe STW Sludge Treatment and Renewable Energy Generation was commended in the Infrastructure (medium firm) category at the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) 2010 Engineering Excellence Awards.

Scunthorpe Sewage Treatment Works is situated in the north of Severn Trent Water’s operational area. The site is the main works for Scunthorpe, but being its northernmost sludge-handling centre, also receives sludge via tanker from surrounding satellite sites in North Lincolnshire. Pick Everard was commissioned to design, manage and deliver an innovative sludge import and treatment solution and upgrade the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant for additional sludge that would be fed to the site’s mesophilic sludge digester.

Civil, structural and M&E designs ensured minimal excavation and construction in a compact location. As well as the environmental and fiscal benefits for Severn Trent, the project has greatly improved safety on the site, with new tanker points being isolated from pedestrian movements.
