Leicester Grammar School

RICS Community Benefit Award 2010

Winner in the Community Benefit category at the regional finals of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors’ (RICS) East Midlands Awards 2010, this project represents the development of a major educational campus in the independent sector in the East Midlands.

A co-education school for 1250 pupils aged from three to 18 the new Leicester Grammar School complex was officially opened by The Queen on 4 December 2008.

This excellent and affordable environment, which betters the Government’s Carbon Emission benchmark by more than 15%, is set in attractive grounds where outstanding sports facilities complement biodiversity areas and flood prevention measures. Sporting facilities are expansive, with floodlit, all-weather hockey pitches, first class rugby pitches, county standard cricket pitches, glazed pavilion, a hard tennis/netball court complex, multiple badminton courts, basketball, netball and cricket nets, gym and dance studio, fitness suite and six-lane, 25-metre competition swimming pool housed within an indoor sports centre.

Since opening its doors to pupils and to the wider community, a large number of external clubs and organisations use the school’s facilities both during and outside term-time.
