Awards 2011
British Geological Survey Data Centre
First BREEAM Data Centres Award
A British Geological Survey Data Centre in Nottingham was among fourteen winning projects in the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Awards 2011 that recognised sustainable development in both UK and overseas buildings.
Dr Jose Hernandez collected the First BREEAM Data centres 2010 award for Pick Everard at Ecobuild, for the first data centre in the world to achieve BREEAM (Excellent) accreditation.
Pick Everard was instrumental in helping BRE to develop criteria for assessment of Data Centres.
Key features of the Nottingham Data Centre include recovery of waste heat from IT processing, re-used to heat a nearby building and inclusion of construction materials with very low environmental impact, including Green Guide A-rated walls, floor finishes and coverings. Pick Everard was BREEAM assessor and provided architectural and
engineering services.
At the awards ceremony, BRE Global chief executive Carol Atkinson said, "The buildings have all been independently assessed and certified and as such, represent genuine examples of sustainability and are some of the best examples of sustainable design and construction across the UK and the world."
